Marshmallow
Althaea officinalis
Marshmallow (Althaea officinalis) is a tall perennial of damp meadows and ditches, with velvety grey-green leaves and pale pink flowers. Its root is exceptionally rich in soothing mucilage.
Cold-macerated root preparations are a classic demulcent for irritated mucous membranes; the leaf is used similarly though more gently.
